Here are the answers to the most frequently asked questions.
If you can't find the answer to your question, [write to us](mailto:[email protected]] !
Why do I need to validate my email?
Your email allows us to send you, at each step you pass, a small photo of the place where you are and an adventure related to the location. We will occasionally contact you through it if we notice an anomaly, for example if your runs are no longer being recorded. We guarantee that your email addresses will never be sold to third parties or used for commercial purposes.
Why am I not receiving any emails?
It is possible that our emails are being blocked by your spam filter. Please check your spam folder and consider adding our address [email protected] as a trusted sender.
What is "adventure mode"?
Every time you reach a step (every 10 km at the beginning of the race), you will have the opportunity to discover where you are virtually with a little adventure. These adventures are almost all based on real facts related to the place you will visit!
You can play up to 3 adventures per day, adventures are played in race order.
You will receive an email for each adventure to be experienced that has not yet been experienced.
We have already written 1023 adventures, the last one to experience is at Gold Hill • united states (for now 😉)
What is karma?
On its main race, The Beautiful Walk offers you optional "adventures" to experience, which allow you to learn more about your step by living through fictional adventures. Often you will be asked to choose between doing a good action or a bad action, which will have a positive or negative impact on your karma. This data is therefore a small summary of your fictional adventures and has no relation to your performance.
What applications are supported?
We support the following applications:
- RunKeeper
- Withings
- Strava
- FitBit
However, we offer manual entry if none of the proposed applications suit you.
I've been running for years where are those KM?
We retrieve your activities from your registration date on the site. One day we decide to go around the world, and that day is the day you registered. If we add an application you were using, we will try to recalculate your distances by taking these new activities from the site registration date.
I use multiple applications where are my KM?
You can link as many applications as available, however, we will calculate a cumulative distance per day and per application. Only the cumulative total of the greatest distance of the day will be taken into account for your logbook. Manual entries are considered as a separate application.
How do I synchronize my activities?
No action is required on your part, activities are retrieved automatically, several times a day between 8am and 11pm. The system goes back 2 days in time, to retrieve nighttime activities and connection gaps. An activity is missing? Make sure your third-party account has it (RunKeeper, Withings, FitBit...), and if it does, write to us!
What activities are taken into account?
We only take into account activities that have a speed less than or equal to running pace.
No skateboarding, cycling, motorcycling, unicorns...
Garmin connection?
We are working hard to offer you this connection.
Until then you can create a Strava account and link your Garmin account to Strava, then link Strava to The Beautiful Walk.
We hope to offer you this connection by the end of 2025.
Do you have a mobile app?
Not yet... The Beautiful Walk wants to be compatible with all major mobile applications that offer wonderful services for free. So choose your favorite from the list of already compatible applications, and get going!
I use Samsung Health / Apple Health / Google Fit, are you compatible?
These platforms unfortunately do not offer the possibility to retrieve your data from their servers. You always have the option to manually report your daily data in one of our compatible applications. If you are on Android, the FitBit application offers the same kind of service and is compatible with our site.
What data do you keep?
We store locally the distance, type, date and duration of your activities, as well as the information you have provided in your profile. We do not resell any data to third parties
